Abstract: In this presentation, I will discuss findings from an ongoing series of studies on the fulfillment of social needs in romantic relationships, focusing on affiliation with friends, being alone, and closeness to the partner. First, I will present results on how accurately romantic partners perceive each other's social needs and how these perceptions relate to need fulfillment. Second, I will present qualitative and quantitative findings on the behaviors partners can show to support each other's need fulfillment across these domains. Together, these findings provide insight into how romantic partners may contribute to each other's social need fulfillment through understanding and behavior.
