Around 60 students from numerous countries took part in Faculty Day 2025 organized by the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology– an inspiring start to the winter semester!

The day began with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Lutz Edzard, the Vice Dean for International Affairs, who welcomed the new guests in keeping with Erlangen’s motto “Open by tradition” and emphasized the importance of international students for the university. In the subsequent presentation, the students were given an overview of FAU, the faculty, the student council (FSV), and the highlights of student life.

Things got particularly lively during the group game, in which the participants explained what they wanted to learn during their stay: many mentioned language, culture, and traditions, while others mentioned personal development goals such as self-organization, self-determination, or making friends and networking.

Another item on the agenda was the presentation of the self-study center and the tandem program, where students learned how to promote independent learning and find a language partner in a tandem – a wonderful opportunity for intercultural exchange.

In the individual departmental presentations for German and Comparative Studies and the Institute of English and American Studies, the students received practical and essential information about the structure of the programs, course selection, and specific features of the respective degree courses.

Finally, the students explored the faculty buildings on Bismarckstraße and Kochstraße during a rally, answering questions about history, symbols, and places such as the experimental theater or upcoming events such as the Long Night of Science.

Faculty Day 2025 was thus an informative, cheerful, and bonding start to the semester—full of encounters, discoveries, and anticipation for the time ahead together at FAU.
