In the summer semester 2026, over 30 new international students began their studies at the Faculty, mainly exchange students from numerous global exchange programs of FAU. At the Faculty Day they had the chance to get to know the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology and to start their studies at FAU in an inspiring way.
The day began with a warm welcome by Prof. Dr. Lutz Edzard, Vice Dean for International Affairs, who, in line with Erlangen’s motto “Open by Tradition,” welcomed the new guests and highlighted the importance of international students for the university. In the following presentation, the students received an overview of FAU, the Faculty, and key highlights of student life.
The group activity was particularly lively, during which participants reflected on what they were most looking forward to. The word “new” was mentioned most frequently, referring to languages, people, and cultures, but also to goals such as personal and professional growth.
Further program items included introductions to the Self-Study Centre, the Tandem Program, and the Writing Centre of the Language Centre. The students learned how to support independent learning, find language partners in tandem programs, and receive assistance with academic writing.
In a short pitch by the Green Office, the students also learned how green and sustainable FAU already is, and which exciting events and participation opportunities are planned for the summer semester.
In the presentation of the Department of German Studies and Comparative Literature, the students received practical and essential information on the structure of their studies, course selection, and the specific features of their degree programs.
Finally, the students explored the faculty buildings on Bismarckstraße and Kochstraße during a rally, answering questions about history, symbols, and locations such as the Experimental Theatre and the Audimax.
The Faculty Day in April 2026 thus marked an informative and joyful start to the semester – full of encounters, discoveries, and anticipation for the time ahead at FAU.
